Tonkon Torp Water Lawyers Lead Regional Symposium on Future Water Supply & Management
3.8.2012
Congressman Earl Blumenauer will be the keynote speaker at a March 15 regional water symposium in Portland co-chaired by Tonkon Torp attorneys Peter Mohr and Janet Neuman.
The day-long event, The Future of Water Supply in the Pacific Northwest: Investment Challenges and Opportunities, will explore supply side and management challenges facing the region's water providers, as well as various infrastructure funding options in the face of declining federal and state assistance. Blumenauer will discuss efforts to create a federal trust fund that could help plug funding shortfalls across the country for future water infrastructure maintenance, repair and expansion. Lawyers Mohr and Neuman are presenters at the conference as well as co-chairs. Mohr's presentation will focus on evaluating water as a financeable asset and Neuman will discuss state water planning.
Mohr and Neuman, members of Tonkon Torp's Water Law practice group, are considered among the region's most knowledgeable water law attorneys. Mohr's environmental and natural resources practice focuses on helping public and private sector clients throughout the West in matters involving water rights permitting, compliance, protection and transactions. Mohr has repeatedly been recognized in Chambers USA, America's Leading Lawyers for Business and is a frequent speaker on water rights regulation and transactions, and ongoing developments in state and federal policies that affect the management of water supplies.
Neuman, considered one of the foremost water policy experts in the Northwest, is a former professor and Associate Dean of Faculty at Lewis & Clark Law School, where she also co-directed the Natural Resources Law Institute. She is a member of the Policy Advisory Group for the Oregon Integrated Water Resources Strategy. A frequent speaker and writer on water law and policy, she recently authored a new book, Oregon Water Law: A Comprehensive Treatise on the Law of Water and Water Rights in Oregon. Neuman is past president of the Oregon Water Trust and currently serves on the board of The Freshwater Trust.
