Haley Morrison Participates in Leadership Portland
1.26.2017
Tonkon Torp Labor & Employment attorney Haley Morrison is participating in the 2017 class of Leadership Portland, an annual program offered by the Portland Business Alliance (PBA) to cultivate and develop community leaders. The firm selects one attorney every year to complete an application and interview process with PBA. Recent past participants include Jessica Morgan, and Chris Pallanch.
During the course of the nine-month program, 36 participants meet once a month for a full-day session to learn about and discuss a broad range of critical issues that affect the Portland region. They gain a deeper understanding of how business, government and community sectors work together to achieve common goals in areas as diverse as arts & culture; local government; public service, and healthcare, among others.
Each participant also works on an "Impact Project" on behalf of a nonprofit. Haley's group is working with Oregon Tradeswomen, Inc. (OTI). The goal of her Impact Project is to write a business plan and/or grant proposal that OTI can use to purchase a building. OTI hopes that with more space, it can increase its training opportunities by, among other things: holding additional classes for the participating tradeswomen; building its own workshop for teaching purposes; offering trades-related classes to the broader community; and creating economic stability by selling the materials that the tradeswomen build in the workshop.
